WCBN-FM is a non-profit radio station licensed to the Regents of the University of Michigan. It operates as the Campus Broadcasting Network and is run by students of the University of Michigan who are grateful for the community members that help at our request. We operate for the enjoyment and enlightenment of our student staff, student listeners, and the greater Ann Arbor community. We can be found in the basement of the Student Activities Building on the Ann Arbor campus, at 88.3 FM on your radio dial, and at wcbn.org online. We are governed by our Constitution.
Our emphasis is on alternative broadcasting, exposing our listenership to things they can’t hear on other radio stations. WCBN’s musical format is freeform, with some specialty shows. Freeform involves a wide variety of music, including jazz, reggae, blues, hip-hop, country, rock, and just about everything else under the sun. Instead of telling our DJs what to play, we allow them to select their own recordings from our vast and unique library. It is their responsibility to mix together many different kinds of music in an intelligent fashion and show links between musical genres.
Additionally, our Sports department hosts a daily sports show, as well as special live broadcasts in a number of sports.
We have some station history available online; we’ve been around for over 70 years in one form or another, so our history is quite extensive.
