I'm not Dead Yet!

So my sister Kathryn just asked me if I had been working on my church experiment, which got me to thinking about it again! Obviously, I haven’t been working on it, as you can see by my very empty-looking blog. I was all ready to dive into that idea, then spring break happened, and after spring break school got very busy, blah blah blah. Anyway, I thought I would write a post to assure you all that I’m still alive and I haven’t forgotten about that experiment and I do want to get it going! So, still keep an eye out for that.

Meanwhile, I’ve had some fun non-church experiment-like stuff going on that I can talk about too. I have been training to be a DJ at Ann Arbor’s local radio station WCBN and will have my own free-form radio show starting tomorrow morning! I’ll be on the air every Thursday morning from 3am-6am. I’m very excited for this and have been having a ton of fun while doing training this week! And you can listen to WCBN online at wcbn.org. I might be posting some stuff from my shows on here as well. I’m really looking forward to expanding my music knowledge!

Along with the new radio gig, I have another sort of experiment going on. My husband, Ben, has tried out a sleeping schedule called polyphasic sleeping in the past. Polyphasic sleep is where you don’t sleep in one chunk (like a normal person ;) ) but instead you break up your sleep schedule into naps, which allows one to sleep less overall. Since I’m on break from school right now, and I was going to have this radio show in the middle of the night, I thought it would be a good time to try polyphasic sleep myself! So, it’s been a week tonight of the two of us doing this type of sleeping. Our schedule is a 30 minute nap every 6 hours at 7am, 7pm, 1pm and 1am. It’s been going fairly well so far. The hardest time that I tend to oversleep the most at seems to be the 7am nap. But despite some oversleeping I have been adjusting. I fall asleep much quicker now and I have been dreaming even in just the 30 minutes I sleep, which is good since that indicates I am getting REM sleep. So that’s been a fun experiment. It’ll be nice if I can keep it up for a while because then I’m only sleeping 2 hours a night, which is pretty awesome.

So those are a couple things that I’ve been up to lately. I’ll try to post again soon!
